Episode 95 A year old show but the music's 50 or more! Still sounds good and holds best music title

Originally heard in May of 2022, we start out of the gate with Bonnie Raitt and hear The Dead, Laura Nyro, Alison Krauss, Taj Mahal, Jesse Ed Davis and yes, there are more artists this hour.

Before we get rocking, I want to ask for your support.  Will you take a moment and surf to support Brian and this podcast, Tales Vinyl Tells?  My story is there, so is my ask.  Thanks for checking it out and supporting this podcast. And thank you to those who have already shown their support.

Tales Vinyl Tells can be heard Wednesdays at 5 central time at RadioFreeNashville.org. There’s a play button up on the right. We are a low power station so the best way to listen is either live or catch the replay here or on the podcast app of your choice. We’re on a bunch of them! I’d love to get email from you at TalesVinylTells@gmail.com.

Episode 94 A B-side of a '65 45, some RnR stew, Tina's 2, and I Bang a Gong

I’ve finally got a show together following my double knee replacement and there’s a surprise or two. The Band by another name. Joe Walsh in another group. And a cool production from the Mamas and Papas.

How long have you been listening to Tales Vinyl Tells? I hope you know that I really put my all into getting some great music and good info and stories for each one. Whether I produce the show in my home studio or do it live in RadioFreeNashville’s studio, I want the listener experience to be as good as it can be. And I want to improve a few things and preserve and spread the great music of the 60s and 70s to a wider audience. I have hopes to upgrade my mixing board, purchase more music for the library and help defray expenses I already have for software, subscriptions, hosting, etc. I personally support causes I believe in and hope that you’ll check out my invitation to support Tales Vinyl Tells. As little as $1 a month would be so great. $5 a month is even better. Support what you dig. My story is at https://patron.podbean.com/talesvinyltellssupport. I hope you’ll take a moment and help me out. Thanks in advance.

Episode 93 More of the great album rock of the 60s and 70s. Show #8 on RadioFreeNashville.

Here… Have another hit… of Fresh Air is how we start this one with Quicksilver Messenger Service – Dino Valenti and John Cipollina. There's one song titled "2 songs for the Señorita”; how about some SRC? All I want for you is Love, Peace and Happiness. And I remember hearing Season of the Witch on my Craig eight track tape player written and performed by Donovan and we also have Al Kooper with Stephen Stills. There's a story about a Firefall and we hear a live radio version from them too. This and all the TVT episodes are downloadable here and wherever you get your podcasts, and the live radio version of Tales Vinyl Tells can be heard most Wednesdays on RadioFreeNashville.org and at 103.7 and 107.1 FM at 5 Central.

Episode 92 Replay April 2022 Songs for your love with jazzy notes, Peace & Quiet and more

You may have missed this little gem full of goodies from the 60s and 70s. A refresher I find very uplifting as it reminds me of a time when…….you can fill in the blank. There are a few Mose Allison tunes, one by The Who and Jimmy Spheeris sings so sweetly. Tales Vinyl Tells is now on most podcast apps and sites so you can pick and choose. With over 1,000 downloads and listeners from over 19 countries, it’s my honor to refresh your memory of that great album music. “Share”, “like”, “comment”, do all you want to promote the music you love. Thanks!

From the Squarespace AI (Beta). I asked it to write about the album music of the 60s and 70s. Here the paragraph:
”The 60s and 70s were a phenomenal era for music. The artists of that generation created soulful and honest work that still resonates with listeners today. From Bob Dylan and The Beatles to The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd, many iconic artists produced music that reflected the political and social changes of the time. The music of the 60s and 70s was characterized by its lyrical depth and emotional range. The soundscape was varied, including rock, folk, and disco. The era produced many unforgettable hits such as "Stairway to Heaven," "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Hotel California," and "Imagine". The great album music of the 60s and 70s continues to inspire contemporary musicians and remains a crucial part of the music world.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

Episode 91 A replay of a summer show heard on RadioFreeNashville

This show was heard on June 22, 2022 on WRFN-LP and since I'm having some minor surgery and will be gone for a few weeks, I thought it'd be good to hear some things you may have missed and we can keep the music rocking' on.  I've got Hendrix, Seals and Crofts, some stormy songs and more.  Hope you enjoy!  Email me, like, comment, share the episodes.  Nice to hear from you faithful listeners.  We're now reaching our podcasts into 19 countries, including the Philippines, Albania, New Zealand, India and are approaching the 1,000 downloads mark.  Catch us on your preferred podcast player.

Episode 89. A lot of great LP cuts from the 60s and 70s, as usual

There are a lot of episodes that are wanting to be heard. Is that an “ego” desire? I don’t think so because the music of those decades speaks for itself. It’s unique (no boom boom boom), not repeating, its not about guns or crime. The music of the 60s and 70s is about peace, love, feeling good, money, Otis Redding (?). Just listen!

A couple things: First-you can now listen to Tales Vinyl Tells on StudioMillsWellness.com, Apple, Google and Spotify podcasts (whoohoo), anytime, anywhere; Second- Podbean is where the podcast is hosted and pushed to Apple etc. Their metrics (?) tell me that over 850 downloads of TVT have happened and that the leading country downloading is New Zealand. Whhaatt? Hello, New Zealand!! And thanks for listening! And Apple podcasts is where the majority of listeners go to hear Tales Vinyl Tells. This is an adventure and I’m glad you’re on it with me. Please subscribe where you can, email me at TalesVinylTells@gmail.com and share this! Let’s see those numbers rise! I am glad your tuned in.

Episode 88 A couple more sailing numbers, sounds of the Caribbean, extended Dylan jam

Since this podcast is a replay of the live radio show on RadioFreeNashville, some have already heard it, listening live at 5 Wednesdays here and here. Thanks for the feedback! By the time I get to edit the archived version, most of the misfires and booboos are gone. Let me know if you find one. HaHa!

In this episode you’ll hear some Randy Newman (thanks Matthew), Spirit, Gerry Rafferty and some Marley and Marijah with two reggae tunes. Feel freee to share this page/link/fun.

Episode 87! A Caribbean cruise!

To break away from the winter boredom, why not imagine a cruise around the Leeward Islands, from Sint Maarten down to Dominica and back up the east side of the chain and back to Sint Maarten, Home of Mary’s Boon Resort and the Princess Juliana airport, where you’ll land.

A lot of the tunes in this episode are very familiar, as you’ve probably heard them all over the radio for decades, but I’ve found great use for them. They fit in well for this adventure aboard a classic 4 masted clipper ship. After customs, we walk to the ship, up the gangway and get ready for this Caribbean Sea cruise.

Episode 86 Joni Mitchell and Gershwin, a little this/that

Three good ones from Joni today. Her PBS tribute is March 31st at 8 central time. She recently was honored to receive the Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. Mad Dogs are loose on the street today and I can only hope you’ll like my song choice today from some of the best LPs of the ‘60s and ‘70s. Thanks for your donations to the show and to RadioFreeNashville.org.

Episode 85 Going back to Eps 18 & 19 before RadioFreeNashville

Many of the great LP cuts from the 60s and 70s were played here on Tales Vinyl Tells, hosted on StudioMillsWellness.com, before March 2022 when Tales Vinyl Tells got an hour slot on Wednesdays at 5 central time on RadioFreeNashville to carry on with the mission. Since my goal was and remains to not repeat too many tunes, except for replays of course, there are some killers that need to be repeated. Like, Jefferson Airplane at Woodstock. I love to hear Grace announce early that Sunday morning in 1969, “You’ve heard the heavy groups, now you’ll hear morning maniac music. Yeh, it’s a New Dawn……. Good morning, People!” and the Airplane launches into Volunteers (of America). Like, Joe Walsh and the James Gang, Thunderclap Newman and Revolution. Those last two were the first two played as a great progressive album rock radio station went on-air at Lake Worth beach, Florida in 1970 (?). That being WMUM-FM, lovingly known as Mother. And it was one. I loved my Mother and the people there that made it happen. Kerry Bogard, Pat Sullender, Bill Davis, Gil Colquitt(RIP), Galen Barker, Michael Weber, Tom Lane and the first guy on the air, Geoff Fox.  If you listen to the Bill Davis interview, you'll hear how someone I know closely played Whole Lotta Love way before WMUM was born. (Smile)

Hope you enjoy all of them here. You can reach out to me at TalesVinylTells@gmail.com. The month of March I celebrate another year at RadioFreeNashville. 2023 is one year.

Episode 83 Canadian Artists who influenced American ears

Many great artists, musical, theatrical, scientific and in other fields have made big marks in what we do here south of the border that we share. This is the first part of the series that brings out some of those great musicians who have made us smile, sing, dance, hug, kiss, you know. The musical list is quite long so I’ve chosen what I think should be played on such a classy show as Tales Vinyl Tells. I’ve warned you to not be surprised what you hear here, so let’s take off. The Guess Who, Lightfoot, Cohen, Adams, Mitchell, The Band are some who you’ll hear in the next two episodes.

RadioFreeNashville is community supported and your support is so appreciated. Learn more and check out the programming at RadioFreeNashville.org.

Episode 82 Valentine's Day Love Songs: Pure Prairie League, Sade, Stones and more

We go back to a Love episode, in fact it’s #17, from August 2020. That was a time before Tales Vinyl Tells became a weekly radio show on RadioFreeNashville. You’ll hear here Janis, Sade, JJ Cale, Arthur Lee and Love (they are really good and have 2 tunes today) and there’s more. If you like what RadioFreeNashville does, thank you, and consider making a donation or give monthly. Hope your Valentine likes this edition of TVT.

Episode 81 Celebrating Black History Month

February is Black History Month and this hour is a retelling of our episode 12 from June 2020. James Brown, Aretha, and Gary Clark, Jr. are just a few of the artists here. Hope your winter is going well and the new year will improve as it progresses.
This episode is to air 2/15/23 at 5 Central on RadioFreeNashville.org and here. You might hear us around Nashville at 103.7 and 107.1 FM.

Episode 80 David Crosby's Music Replay from Feb 1, '23 RadioFreeNashville

The icons of the sixties are physically leaving us, one by one. My intentions are to keep their music alive. The music of the 60s especially was unique and many of the albums that contained those tunes have endured a half century or more, just begging to jump onto a turntable so the stylus can be gently placed into the endless groove and be played and appreciated. Or hated. There are so many songs I despise, even though they were great, they got overplayed on commercial radio. I’m trying very diligently to hold off on repeating any songs, though I feel some are so worth repeating. This is probably the 4th time I’ve played Wooden Ships but why not with such a great tune with Stephen Stills’ signature guitar solo and great lyrics that make you wonder about so much. I give this hour to Croz and encourage you to explore his compositions and especially his latest works, solo and with his son, James Raymond, guitarist Jeff Pevar in the group CPR. Enjoy!

I’m digging’ listening to the early podcasts!

Listen live Wednesdays at 5 Central Time in Nashville on 103.7 & 107.1 or stream here and here.

Episode 79 Jeff Beck tribute and a few others

What a down year this has started out to be. Jeff Beck now David Crosby. Rock photographer Henry Diltz said: “Our old friend David Crosby walked into the next room today. Imagine what he's seeing right this minute. We can only guess, but they say it's pretty cool. Looking forward to seeing him on the other side”. Can you dig what Beck and DC just might be up to?The year is gonna get better, I do believe.

So lets get down to business. Jeff Beck’s imaginative and innovative guitar work spilled all over rock, blues and jazz worlds since he played with The Yardbirds as early at 1965. “‘Cause we’ve ended as lovers” is sultry, Goin down rocks the house. Great stuff here today! This hour hasn’t even hit the airways yet. That’ll be Wednesday at 5 Central on RadioFreeNashville.org.

Episode 78 Replay RadioFreeNashville 8 10 22 Farms and Roads

A 1968 Tull tune starts it off today with a farm set and we also hear about the Road Kill Bill that the Tennessee state legislature passed in 1999. A excerpt from an interview I did with my friend, Brant Miller, about that song from Episode 16 in 2020 leads into that song. Hot off the grill!

There’s some Todd Rundgren, Southern Pacific and Leon Russell. The music from the 60s and 70s lives on here.

You can hear Tales Vinyl Tells live at 5 pm CDT Wednesdays in Nashville at 103.7 & 107.1 FM and you can stream live anywhere in the world you have an internet connection at RadioFreeNashville.org. You can also teach Alexa to “play RadioFreeNashville” after you tell her to enable the RadioFreeNashville online skill.

Episode 77 Just hangin' around and playin' with Carole, Sly, Quicksilver and more

You know how you get used to things being where you left them? And you feel like things are normal? Well, at the moment, all is new. I’m not home in Nashville and to give a hint, let’s just say I’m near the beach and it’s warm here. I’m still putting radio shows together and they’re still playing at 5 PM Wednesdays on RadioFreeNashville.org, WRFN-LP. This one hour show today ranges from Uncle Tupelo to a great cut from Zep III. And they’re all downloadable here on StudioMillsWellness.com.

If you’d like to donate to this nonprofit, there are many listed at RadioFreeNashville.org. Thank you and hope you get off on this hour’s cuts from the ‘60s and ‘70s, mostly.

Episode 76 Happy New Year! It's 2023! Salute to Christine McVie and more

Looks like we made it to a new year. I was beginning to wonder. Last year had some good, some sad but the best thing is that is ended. I had a Covid Christmas, lost a couple really good people, like my 30 year old niece, my 62 year old friend, had a melanoma on my head and it was just a weird year. I did though get my chance to bring Tales Vinyl Tells to RadioFreeNashville and the world. Now a chance to regain momentum.

Here we have a salute to Christine McVie and her time in public performance. She had a distinctive voice, you could probably tell the songs she penned and she brought life to the rock world. She is missed. One tune she did in her time with Chicken Shack in 1968 is here and I think you’ll recognize it. All in all, here’s some great music to kick the year off with.
