As we take a break to be with family and friends to rest and recharge, this replay has some cool notes to hit. There’s Shuggie’s love letter, a song that many call the first psychedelic rock tune by The Byrd’s, Luc-Ponty’s violin, of course a Doobie, soundalike The Searchers and other Fascinating Things (a bit of now and then).
I have an idea for a future show. A lot of people play or at least try to play an instrument of some kind. May be their voice. Or castanets. Or they listen and applaud (or pillow hands). I myself am playing some guitar with friends and getting a little better, overall. What I want to do is give notice a week before as to what song, one hopefully many know, we’ll play the next week. You can easily find music online and for free. On the next show, I’ll play the recorded version while I play on my guitar live and you join in, in some way or another, if you want to. Whether you listen live on RadioFreeNashville.org or catch the podcast, we can, universally play the same song, along with me or as you hear the replay. This idea came to me after my friend from my hometown, Jim Smollon told me few years ago when I played Hold My Hand by Hootie and the Blowfish, he had to grab his guitar and play that one at home while I played it on the podcast. I’d like to spread that around the world. This podcast is downloaded in over 23 countries at last count. Imagine the instruments that could be played! Maybe those playing could record their versions and email the track to me. Who knows? I might be able to mix it and hear what we get. On my friend Jim Smollon mentioned above, he had some health event and was found dead at home a while back. A real shock to his family and friends. He was a good guy. So, why don’t we call this project “The Jim Jam”? I’ll explain more as this idea gels.
HAPPY 2024! Do all you can for peace and justice, around the world!
