Episode 61 from RadioFreeNashville, aired 8/31/22. More 15+ million selling LPs, fun!

This is the playback from this past Wednesday on RadioFreeNashville. I continue revealing the 29 albums to date that have sold 15 million or more. There’s a great David Crosby story and song with his reunited son and it’s a great tune cowritten by Donald Fagen (Steely Dan). And it shows. Tales Vinyl Tells can be heard live most Wednesdays at 5PM central time in Nashville at 103.7 and 107.1 FM, can be streamed live at RadioFreeNashville.org and replays can be heard and downloaded here and on Apple podcasts. Thanks for listening! You can suggest and comment by email at TalesVinylTells@gmail.com.

Episode 60 More of the 29 LPs that sold over 15 million units + David Gilmour, Fred Neil

Thanks for listening! I am counting down the 29 albums that have sold 15 million or more as of July 27, 2022. This time we hear from Steve Miller and his band and Toto, featuring Michael Jackson. Okay, it’s Michael Jackson and a few Thriller cuts but Toto makes the music on this LP. You’ll hear Sir Douglas Quintet, Michael Martin Murphy and more. Reminder: Tales Vinyl Tells live at 5 pm Central time Wednesdays can be heard at 103.7 & 107.1 FM and you can stream it live at RadioFreeNashville.org and on your Alexa device when you set up the RadioFreeNashville online skill. After that, all you have to tell her to do is, “Alexa, play RadioFreeNashville.” See what she says about that. “I don’t know that one”??

Episode 59 Start the countdown! Only 29 Albums sold 15+Million

127 LPs achieved diamond status, selling at least 10 million in albums and singles, but only 29 have sold more than 15 million and today we start to count them down, including lots of other great LP cuts from mostly the ‘60s and ‘70s. Today its The Boss and Zeppelin at #s 28 & 29. Also, I have John Baldry with Elton John and his band, Boz Scaggs Group’s guitarist, Les Dudek, Simon and Garfunkel reminiscing and the hour’s filled with music and info. If you can, please support the host of my radio show, Tales Vinyl Tells, Wednesdays at 5 Central time. Listen on FM, stream it live or wait for the replay (3-4 days). All at RadioFreeNashville.org.

Episode 58 RadioFreeNashville show from 8 10 22 About farms and roads

A 1968 Tull tune starts it off today with a farm set and we also hear about the Road Kill Bill that the Tennessee state legislature passed in 1999. A excerpt from an interview I did with my friend, Brant Miller, about that song from Episode 16 in 2020 leads into that song. Hot off the grill!

There’s some Todd Rundgren, Southern Pacific and Leon Russell. The music from the 60s and 70s lives on here.

You can hear Tales Vinyl Tells live at 5 pm CDT Wednesdays in Nashville at 103.7 & 107.1 FM and you can stream live anywhere in the world you have an internet connection at RadioFreeNashville.org. You can also teach Alexa to “play RadioFreeNashville” after you tell her to enable the RadioFreeNashville online skill.”

Episode 57 Replay of RadioFreeNashville 8 3 2022

This one was live broadcast a few days ago and is themed “animals”. Not necessarily about pets, there’s a Bungle, a Raccoon, Boo but no Eric Burdon and the Animals. The first tune will hopefully get you primed for what’s to come in this hour of some of the best in the 60s and 70s and both sides of that era.

If you want to catch Tales Vinyl Tells live on the radio in Nashville at 103.7 & 107.1, tune in at 5:00 Wednesdays. And you can live stream on the web at RadioFreeNashville.org.

Episode 56 RadioFreeNashville Show 7.20.22

The heat is definitely on here in middle Tennessee and I’m hoping you can listen to this hour in a cool place, maybe just in your head, but it’d be nice if you could chill out with music from Marvin Gaye, first off, Jackie Lomax, Amboy Dukes (yep!), a nice long LP cut from Neil Young, even some Zappa. My email is TalesVinylTells@gmail.com and I’m open to your comments and suggestions. Remember, RadioFreeNashville is an online Alexa skill, Tales Vinyl Tells is also downloadable here and on Apple podcasts. Do what you can to stay cooled and safe. Enjoy this hour of great LP cuts from the 60s and 70s. Peace.

Episode 55 Replay from RadioFreeNashville 7.13.22

This episode contains some tunes that are a bit on the fringe of my collection. By that I mean that they weren’t mainstream album cuts you may have heard often on AOR FM stations, but they are good and solid and from bands whose members went on to or came from well known groups. Like Tony Kaye and Peter Banks on the last cut today from Flash. They both came from Yes. Kaye was supposedly just a guest with them, though its a bit murky. Also we hear Van Morrison, The Animals, The Brecker Brothers, a very cool version of Riders on the Storm and more.

Tennessee’s Primary is Thursday, August 4th, as we vote for Governor and other offices. The ballot is long and you can see/print the ballot when you search the web for “sample ballot (county, state)”. Early voting in Cheatham County, TN (Click for poll locations) runs from Friday July 15-Saturday July 30. VOTE VOTE VOTE!!

Episode 54 RadioFreeNashville Replay of 7.6.22 Live Show

Here’s another replay of the live radio program. I did some bad math and didn’t time things out to end at 6:00 so had to take the Doobie tune off the live playlist but tossed it back in when I edited the playback. Gobbledygook to you maybe, but I said I’d “definitely share a Doobie” and here it is. A very heavy duty Deep Purple tune from 1970 winds this one up but, oh man! Between Rockin’ Elton and then, there’s Dan Fogelberg, Boston and more. This is a great one for headphones! BTW, did you contact a dermatologist yet?

Early voting in Tennessee starts Friday July 15th and is open till Saturday July 30th. WE NEED YOUR VOTE! YOU MATTER!! Thanks.

Episode 53 RadioFreeNashville playback from 6.29.22 4th of July show

This replay of a podcast I recorded in 2020 celebrates our nation’s independence with Jimi, Simon and Garfunkel, Steppenwolf, America (why not?) and more. Karla Bonoff is the spotlighted songwriter and we’re having fun! July 6th should be live again with more LP cuts from the 60s and 70s, hope you’ll join me Wednesday at 5 PM on RadioFreeNashville.org, on Streema and if you’re in Nashville, try us at 103.7 and 107.1 FM. Happy Independence Day!

Let me encourage you if you spend time in the sun or have in the past or if you have used or use tanning beds, please be sure to see a dermatologist. I’ve just had a melanoma cut out of my head and it’s no fun and can be deadly. My hairstylist found it and luckily it seems to be serious but not deadly, though it could be if not detected early. Take care of your skin. Have your partner check you out too. Ticks hide, so can melanomas. Peace.

Episode 52 Replay WRFN 6.22.22 Songs about rain, wind, storms

Never did I ever think there were so many songs written about rain and it’s accompanying elements. Left off this show are songs like The Doors’ Riders on the Storm (which may please many. I myself think it’s a great tune), country hits like Ronnie Milsaps’ Smoky Mountain Rain and Eddie Rabbitt’s I Love a Rainy Night and Drivin’ My Life Away (windshield wipers slappin’ out a tempo). You might want to check those out on your own. Anyway, here you’ll hear Lovin’ Spoonful, Clapton, Dylan and more sing their songs about rain and of course there’s some trivia about these even though you might find it trivial. If you listened live you heard a major digital failure (ok, it was me) but I fixed it. I hope you enjoy this episode. Maybe you’ll listen to the next LIVE Tales Vinyl Tells Wednesdays at 5 PM Central on RadioFreeNashville.org or at 103.7 and 107.1 in Nashville. 7/29 is a birthday party for the 4th of July, even though I’m disgusted with the politics in America today. And the SCOTUS.

Episode 51 Tales Vinyl Tells Juneteenth Show RadioFreeNashville 6.15.22

June 19th-Juneteenth- is our newest Federal Holiday. A celebration of the Emancipation Proclamation and the cultural artistry of BIPOC people. There’s not enough time for an hour program to include all the influence and entertainment the world has received from people of color. The list is endless. I have brought some of this era’s artists to the turntables as we salute those who have and still do fight the good fight for true freedom, justice and equality. A never-ending battle, more join the fight everyday. We’ll hear Hootie, Curtis, The Queen and more and hopefully we’ll share a Lovely Day because we’re Feelin’ Good and after all, it’s a Family Affair.

Episode 50 RadioFreeNashville show 6.8.22

This week I feature songs about truth. Capability Brown does an Argent tune, we learn more about the Beatles’ scruffs, there’s a rare long version of Bluebird and more. Next week LIVE at 5 central on RadioFreeNashville.org is my salute to Juneteenth and want to include best wishes to all the dad’s on Father’s Day, to African-American music appreciation month, celebrated since 1979 and initiated by then President Jimmy Carter and the Summer Solstice occurs next week.

Episode 49 Replay of RadioFreeNashville 5.25.22

The playlist for the live radio show started out with a number of sad heartachy songs and I didn’t know why. As time went on, I got word of a young niece who had suddenly had a brain aneurysm and was gone. Leaving two young children, a 2-1/2 year old and a 5 week old, and her husband of 5 years. Life is short. Be kind.

Episode 46 WRFN Replay 5.11.22

One of my favorite artists and for a long time is Bonnie Raitt. The first one I heard from her is our leadoff tune this time. Laura Nyro penned many great songs and Alison Krauss sings one of them. Train songs are featured with Taj Mahal and Casey Kelly “but wait! There’s more”! Hope you enjoy this replay of my weekly gig on RadioFreeNashille.org. Stream it live there or you can tune in at 103.7 and 107.1 in Nashville Wednesdays at 5 Central.

Episode 45 Replay of Tales Vinyl Tells on RadioFreeNashville 5.4.22

Here…..have another hit…..of Fresh Air is how we start this one with Quicksilver-Dino Valenti and John Cippolina. There’s one song titled “2 Songs for the Señorita”, how about some SRC? All I want for you is Love, Peace and Happiness. And I remember hearing Season of the Witch on my Craig 8 track player, written and performed by Donovan and we also have Al Kooper with Stephen Stills. There’s a story about a firefall and we hear from them too. This and all the TVT episodes are downloadable and the live radio version of Tales Vinyl Tells can be heard most Wednesdays on RadioFreeNashville.org and at 103.7 and 107.1 FM at 5 Central.

Episode 44 Replay of Tales Vinyl Tells on RadioFreeNashville 4.27.22

My seventh live radio show at WRFN-LP includes a couple tunes from the great and very cool Mose Allison, one of those tunes coming from The Who, there’s some Fleetwood Mac, some Peace and Quiet. I believe I heard, years ago, from the old folks, “If you’re doing requests, I want some Peace and Quiet!” This is most likely not what they expected, but it’s a great one. There’s a cut from Fragile and we finish with I am the Mercury, from Jimmie Spheeris. This is what I feel the highest time of music in the 20th century. Headphones are a good way to listen and Sunday morning is a good time to listen but anytime and any way is what works. Thanks for listening! Tales Vinyl Tells live on RadioFreeNashville.org and 103.7/107.1 Wednesdays at 5 PM Central. See you on the radio!

Episode 43 Replay of Tales Vinyl Tells on RadioFreeNashville 4.20.22

I neglected to mention the significance of 4-20 so please forgive me. I DO share a Doobie with you. Isn’t that worth something? This time I also share the electric violin of Jean Luc Ponty, Doobies and Little River Band from my LPs and more. How about the 23rd love letter from a 17 year old, in song? Spooky Tooth is here too.

Spring is in full bloom now. Suddenly, the leaves have popped out on our maples and it’s all so green! Be sure to vote May 3rd!

Coming up Wednesday the 27th at 5 central time on RadioFreeNashville.org and at 103.7 and 107.1 in Nashville, Tales Vinyl Tells plays Badfinger, Peace and Quiet (they’re NOT), Mose Allison, Jimmie Spheeris and a few more. Refresh your memory and your senses when you join me! And please consider donating to community radio with money or even your old auto. Check RadioFreeNashville. Thanks!

Episode 42 Replay of WRFN RadioFreeNashville show 4.6.22

It’s a beautiful day here in Nashville and I think I just saw a White Bird fly by my window. Soon you’ll be hearing the song it’s about. We’ve got a salute to the music magic of Genesis and the solo efforts of members of the band, not to mention Savoy Brown and much more.
